The End of #ProjectMartian For Now

This morning it was the first chill day after a brief repast of 20C weather we've had in November. it has been a delight wirking in the warm sun finishing the last tasks of fall to put our dear Mezzacello to bed. The golden leaves falling drew my mind to Robert Frost.

Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf.So Eden sank to grief,So dawn goes down to day.Nothing gold can stay.

The partnership between the Columbus Foundation, the PAST Foundation and Mezzacello has finished. I find it ironic that the dominant hue here is pine mulch atop 30cm of compost and compost accelerant. Nature requires both discipline and flexibility. That is the language of the gardener. We grew a lot of food and produced 9 cubic meters of compost. And zero dirt was involved. Everything was grown in compost and mixtures of sawdust, diatomaceous earth, and select salts and minerals. Add select amounts of water, sunlight, algae, and beneficial organisms from manure and boom! My most successful growing season in five years at Mezzacello. There were almost no weeds. A few deleterious pests that came along with the compost and multiple beneficial insects. Life attracts life. Now it’s nap time.[media-credit id=3 align="alignnone" width="900"]
