Knowing Your SuperPower

Today I was working with my Columbus City School intern and they asked if they could conduct an interview, and of course I agreed. One of the questions they asked was about knowing my super power. One of mine is definitely creativity.

My Three Superpowers

I was inspired by this question about my superpowers. It made me reflect and look at what I am doing here at Mezzacello Urban Farm and my mission in a new and insightful way.

I told them that my three super powers were:

  1. Creativity

  2. Curiosity

  3. Grit

Creativity and Curiosity are actually (in my opinion) two sides of the same coin. One can’t really be creative without curiosity. But one can be curious (the adjective, the verb, and the noun) and not be really creative. But creativity does make curiosity MUCH more interesting in my opinion.

I also loathe the idea that people think they are not creative. All humans are creative. Don’t wait for it to hit you like a blinding epiphany! Take a momemt and think about a time where you surprised yourself with a clever solution or hack.

I could not have created Mezzacello Urban Farm without Creativity. I. could not have been as creative as I have been without curiosity and being curious about how I could do something new and innovative. Lastly, I could not have failed and failed again without grit.

Grit as the Fulcrum

Grit is key. You have to stay the course and believe in the vision. Push, push, and then push yourself some more.

Creativity helps here too — as does curiosity. Curiosity pushes you to leverage Grit to get something done, Creativity shines a light on the path.

What are your super powers? Are they the same as mine? Do you know what they are? Let me know in the comments if you do!
