Do It Now: Repeat

Do It Now: Repeat

Do It Now: Repeat
My mentor and her reminder to do it!

life is a journey and it happens whether you accept or or not. The truth is it is pretty easy in hindsight; Do it now: Repeat.

I do love my lists. I want to live a life with purpose and meaning, but I also have to live in the real world. I ran into a dear friend and mentor and survivor who inspires and reminds me of the four realizations that make my life livable.

She doesn't know I am writing about her. But I love and see myself better because of her and I have a strong desire to explore and celebrate that. I tested the waters on social media and I am right, so here we are.

Survivors do not see themselves as special or often even as survivors. In my experience ”survivors” are generally people for whom the idea of quitting or giving up had not ever occurred to them. They are often as surprised as the people asking them HOW they did it.

The Four Realizations

  • You are always only one decision away from a different life
  • You are you own worst enemy; give yourself permission and trust
  • Life is a journey not a discrete set of steps; now now next next
  • Come to the realization of your purpose and then do something to manifest that

Reflect and Redirect

I had the opportunity to reflect on this over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. how did I get lucky enough to be here? Healthy, loved, challenged, and hopeful. Hint: It’s the title of this blog post for a reason.

It's not as important what you do or how you do it as it is THAT you do it and then reflect on it. I call this the survivor paradox (I just made this up, but I like it). Most survivors do not think of themselves as special, just focused. They reflect on making it and ignore the how - it's just the goal.

Survivors do not see themselves as special or often even as survivors. In my experience ”survivors” are generally people for whom the idea of quitting or giving up had not ever occurred to them. They are often as surprised as the people asking them HOW they did it.

This is how I survived everything - all of it. I started Mezzacello and I keep working on it. I see a future I want to live in and empower others — everyone — to live there too.

Comparison is the Enemy of Joy

When you look what everyone else is doing you will never be enough.

Jim Bruner

That's why the fourth realization is so important, in my opinion, is so very important. We are all of us survivors traveling through space and time. One cannot do everything everywhere, all at once. Stay focused on the goal and then do things towards that goal.

When we want something to happen now, we make ourselves vulnerable. Instead pick a goal and create a path (even if it's not fully formed) and keep doing the things to make it help you be the more, the better, you. When you look what everyone else is doing you will never be enough.

This is why I think the survivors paradox is so enlightening; Survivors don't spend a lot of time wishing or regretting that they were better or more like this or that. They just move and keep moving. To compare is to suffer.
